Brief info

Trudie Skies was born in Nottingham—Robin Hood country, she says—and now lives in North East England, where she spends the majority of her free time imagining warmer climates and writing about them.

Her less-than-free time is also spent behind a computer keyboard as an IT administrator, and she promises not to bore you with the details. Previously, she worked as a mobile game designer and tester, as well as a professional writer for video game websites.

Trudie grew up on Tamora Pierce and has always wanted to be a swashbuckling knight with her own medieval castle. She has a thing for swords, and so all her characters also have a thing for swords. She loves to read Young Adult fantasy and in recent years has been inspired by desert kingdoms and cultures, which is clearly apparent in her upcoming debut novel Sand Dancer.

In January 2019, Trudie signed with Uproar Books, a new publisher of epic fantasy and science fiction novels.

Trudie's Taste in Books and Video Games

I was raised on video games and fantasy books. My first ever console was a SEGA Master System and I’ve been a hardcore SEGA fan ever since. I even attended a Sonic the Hedgehog convention cosplaying Dr Robotnik! These days, you’re more likely to catch me playing my favourite Bethesda RPG’s such as The Elder Scrolls or Fallout, or trying the latest indie games.

Whilst I love sprawling open world games. RPG’s and survival/crafting sims, I’m looking to play shorter indie experiences that focus more on atmosphere and story. I generally don’t touch competitive games including FPS or sports, but I do love a good single player FPS experience if the world draws me in.

For books, I read mostly fantasy and young adult fantasy, but I’m happy to blur the genre lines between fantasy and sci-fi. I’ll read anything that seems weird or wonderful, including fantasy romance or urban fantasy, but I’m not interested in straight up romance, contemporary, crime, or thrillers. I need the fantastical.

Give me imaginative world building and emotion characters in both books and video games!
